SIP Settings in Symbian S60 v5 Phones Nokia 5800, Nokia N97, Samsung OMNIA i8910HD

Have you bought a brand new NOKIA N97, NOKIA 5800 Express music or Samsung OMNIA HD i8910(In short Symbian S60 v5 phone). If yes then you probably end up with non ending struggle to configure SIP in your phone. Actually if you go to

Menu >> Settings >> Connectivity >> Admin. Settings >> SIP Settings

You can see SIP profile settings. But the main question is "FOR WHAT?"

I tried SIP settings for Rynga, Actionvoip, and Jumblo but I was not able to go through. After a long Googling I saw various people discussing about the same issue. Actually NOKIA has blocked Native SIP client in Symbian S60 v5 phones. I tried contacting Samsung Customer Care for OMNIA HD i8910, they told that SIP can be used only for Video calls. Which I was not able to verify.

Now the question is how to use SIP in your phone with Native SIP Client

Well the answer is Third Party Application. There are number of Applications available in the market, but based on accessibility and user interface i think Fring and Nimuzz will be on top of all.

Fring

Just go to Fring.com and download the Fring Application. As of now Fring supports all S60 v5 phones including Samsung OMNIA HD. You can configure SIP in a very simple way

Just enter User ID, Password, and Proxy Address and you will be able to configure your SIP client on Fring

Nimbuzz

Same as we have Disscussed for fring. Just goto Nimbuzz.com and download the application for your phone.

Please drop your comments for Native SIP in High end Nokia N97 and Samsung Omnia HD i8910....

  1. have you tried the third party Apps?
as far as I have found out none of them functions with
    Samsung i8910HD.
Please let me (us) know if you know otherwise.

    Thank you.

  2. Popular solution on Middle East is to use Symbian Nokia phone with third-party SIP client over VPN client SymVPN from www.telexy.com
